Meet Carolyn McElhaney, OTR/L, CHT
Carolyn of East Suburban Sports Medicine has over 25 years of experience in hand therapy in the Pittsburgh area, having worked in both hospital and outpatient settings. In 2014 she earned her hand therapy certification from the Hand Therapy Certification Commission. Carolyn graduated in 1992 from College Misericordia with a BS degree in occupational therapy. She also holds an AS degree in occupational therapy from Mount Aloysius College.
To earn the hand therapy certification, therapists must have at least five years of experience and over 4,000 hours of direct practice in hand therapy. Successful completion of a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory is also required. There are only 6,000 Certified Hand Therapists worldwide.
When she is not working out of ESSMC Monroeville or ESSMC Murrysville, Carolyn enjoys cooking, gardening, traveling, bike riding, and exploring her neighborhood and area parks on foot.
